The Book-mobile Comes To Visit

Due to our recent construction, the school's library is closed. However, we are fortunate that Ms. Evans set up a time for the Louisville Free Public Library to come visit once a month so that the students may still check out books for the classroom! Along with our special time with the bookmobile, we had story time with one of LFPL's librarians!

Meet Fred and George!

Meet our new goldfish, Fred and George (if it isn't apparent for you...Mrs. Bratton is a huge Harry Potter fan)! The kids started their unit on the behavior and characteristics of fish today. We observed their behavior and swimming patterns. The kiddos are excited about our new class pets! :)

Working With Our Names

The students studied the shapes of the letters in their names. We made observations of tall, short or round letters. Afterwards the students followed the "path" of their names with star stickers. They are very proud to have these hanging in the room right now!

Scientists Make Predictions!

The students learned a new Science vocabulary word last week- prediction. The students each received a special "magic capsule" that would change in water. The students made predictions before placing their capsules into the water and then we watched to see if we were correct. The kids had a blast watching their capsules "hatch"! :)

Our Class Predictions
Waiting patiently to see if our predictions are correct!
Our capsules turned into different animal shaped sponges!

Friendship Salad

The first week of school, the students made "Friendship Salad" together. This was an opportunity for the students to discuss what types of behavior they would like their friends to show in the classroom and what behaviors they would not like in our class. For each "friendly" behavior we added an ingredient (i.e. fruit, yogurt, marshmallows) and stirred it up. The kids decided we wanted no "rotten bananas" in our room!

Enjoying our Friendship Salad together!

YMCA Summer Learning Loss

I was honored to work with the YMCA last summer on the Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program at Farnsley Middle School. I got to spend 6 weeks with last year's Kindergartners to help boost their literacy skills. JCPS did a quick documentary on our program and I just wanted to share. I will be doing it again next summer,so please let me know if you are interested in your child participating.
